FAQ

A few frequently asked questions...

What the heck are you supposed to be, anyway? And what's with the ears?
Nim and I are african painted dogs.  Big ears are just part of the package!

Where did the name NimRoderick come from?
It's a combination of Nimrod, (my sister's name), and Roderick (yours truly!)

(Out of Character):

 Why painted dogs?
Well. African wild dogs are endangered, and so few people know that they even exist, let alone that they're struggling to survive.  And a whole lot of misunderstanding sure isn't helping things, either.  I hope to help bring a sense of fondness and familiarity with my pair of loveable doofuses, casting these amazing creatures in the positive light they deserve.

Do you ever break character?
Nope. Not often, anyway.  A cartoon dog I am, and a cartoon dog I shall stay.
 ~
Why not?
A few reasons, not the least of which being that it's just plain more fun. You've gotta be real-life-you all day long. When given the opportunity, why not shed your people-suit and be something different? It's fun!

But aside from that. Kids are the future of conservation.  When a youngin discovers and enjoys my work, I want there to be a direct connection between those good feelings brought on by exploring a series whimsical and imaginative creations, and the positive depiction of the African painted dog.  --Heck, not just kids. Anyone who enjoys my work.  The more people who can associate the painted dog with an experience that made them smile, the better!
~
Are there really two of you?
Literally? Nope. Both Nimrod and Roderick are characters of the same person, exploring different elements of his personality.  Nim is a colourful representation of that playful, imaginative inner child that makes dreaming up amazing things possible. Roderick's the practical little fella who gets things done.  Neither is complete without the other.
